Faith-Based Therapy

“Just pray about it.”

How many times have you heard that advice in response to sharing your struggles?

It’s almost as if people want you to stop talking to them about your concerns rather than listening to support you.

You have prayed about it! You’ve spent hours on your knees and in your prayer closet, asking for something to change. Yet, you still feel like the weight of the world is on your shoulders.

But what if praying isn’t enough?

We know that it sounds like a sin even to say that.

But you’ve learned that sometimes it’s not enough because you’ve tried it.

Does that mean that you’re questioning God or your faith isn’t big enough?

Can you be a person of faith and doubt that praying is enough? Your grandmother would say, “NO – you need to repent and pray harder.”

But we believe that faith without works is dead (yea, that’s in the Bible, too), and you can pray and have all the faith in the world. But you also have to move and do what God is telling you to do.

The church may have hurt you in the past.

It’s hard to admit that church hurt rather than helped you, but let’s be honest for a minute.

Maybe your struggles are because of the messages that you heard in the church. Those messages provided the wrong guidance about how to handle your mental health.

Those messages may have confused you about how to walk in purpose if you have mental health challenges, causing you not to get the support you need.

You may question whether a therapist can even help you if they don’t also understand your religious beliefs. Or, if they are believers, you may wonder whether they will judge you like so many other “church folks” do.

You can have God and a therapist, too.

Being a person of faith doesn’t mean that you won’t also have struggles.

Having a therapist doesn’t mean that your faith isn’t strong enough if you have struggles.

We can provide the support you need by helping you include your faith and spirituality in the therapy you need. There is no reason to keep them apart.

Your faith journey is a huge part of how you process the genuine challenges in this life.

God didn’t design us to face life’s challenges alone.

Our job is to support you by using our training and expertise as therapists to help you view our work together through a Christian or faith-based lens. You can be confident that our approach will guide you in a direction that aligns with what you value most – your faith.

We want to support you as you walk with a God-given purpose, full of compassion and grace.

You may need to deal with some difficult questions, but in this safe space, you can rest assured that we will listen, hear, not judge, and say more than “pray about it.”

If you’re a person of faith, questioning your faith, or finding yourself conflicted about your spirituality and mental health, let us accompany you on your journey.
