Every year we go through the rhythm of ushering in a new year with resolutions, goals, and new things to do. As we bring 2020 to a close, take some time to turn inward, journal, and reflect on what this year has been FOR YOU. Whether it’s been the longest March EVER, or flew by a little too quickly, there were things that touched you this year: new insights, new wisdom, new experiences, and I encourage you to spend some time writing in your journal and reflecting on those things.
For many of us, we did things we’ve never done before. Whether that was starting a new hobby or spending our first Christmas away from loved ones. All of those things leave an imprint and these questions will help you have more insight into what that imprint is.
1. What was the most significant life lesson you learned this year? How will it change the ways you show up in the world next year?
2. What relationship impacted you the most this year and why?
3. What belief about yourself, the world, and/or others did you realize you had this year that is no longer serving you?
4. What relationship do you have that you realized is no longer serving you?
5. In what ways would you like to be different next year?
6. In what ways would you like to remain consistent next year?
7. What book, article, or reading impacted you the most this year and why?
8. What quote, speech or saying stuck with you the most this year and how have you applied it this year? Here’s ours
“When I put Down what is not mine to Carry, I am Free”
— Octavia Raheem
9. What was difficult for you this year?
10. What felt easy for you this year?
11. What do you need to release and free yourself from before you transition into the new year?
12. What tools do you need to support you in this release?
13. What things are you looking forward to receiving in the new year?
14. What do you need to prepare yourself to receive in the new year?
15. What was the best investment you made in yourself this year?
16. What have you gained more clarity about this year that will support you in making decisions next year?
17. What did you do this year that was the most fun/celebratory?
18. What did you do that took a lot of courage this year? When did you have to be brave?
19. What made you happy this year? How can you cultivate more of this in the new year?
20. What did you sow this year that you are hoping to reap in the new year?
21. In what ways did you grow this year?
Start a habit of regularly checking in with yourself and documenting how you have shifted. Seeing yourself truly and authentically helps you to align with the highest version of yourself. Your journal will highlight all the ways you’ve grown over a certain period of time.
Happy New Year!
